5 Things You Didn’t Know About Hard Seltzers
We here at Omaha Brewing Company are big fans of hard seltzer (check out Island Rain if you haven’t already)! The hard-seltzer market is thriving, and we only see it continuing to grow. Here’s our take on 5 things you didn’t know about hard seltzers.
1. They are lower calorie than most alcoholic alternatives
GQ states that hard seltzers generally have around 100 calories, whereas most beers are around 125 calories, and a glass of red wine has about 125 calories. Not to mention how high-cal most cocktails are! By sipping on a hard seltzer, you are saving yourself from consuming those unnecessary calories. All while enjoying a light and refreshing beverage!
2. Hard Seltzer is a rapidly growing industry
Last year the hard seltzer industry was booming, and its only expected to increase from there. Business Insider writes that the industry, “currently worth $550 million, could grow to reach $2.5 billion by 2021,” with numbers coming from UBS. This is an industry that is most definitely growing at a rapid pace, and we can expect to see more and more people begin to drink seltzers. They appeal to every drinker, whether it be beer, wine, or spirits, which contributes to their widespread success.
3. Hard Seltzer makes a great mixer
Hard seltzers are inarguably delicious on their own. With great flavors ranging from the classic lime to more craft options like Island Rain’s Blackberry Watermelon. However, hard seltzers also serve as a great mixer in a cocktail. Throw in a little vodka or prosecco with a hard seltzer and you’ve got a brand new, delicious cocktail. 4. It’s Convenient
Canned cocktails and wine have been increasing in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Canned alcoholic beverages are convenient. You can take them to the beach or enjoy them at a tailgate, and there is no corkscrew or bottle opener needed. Hard seltzers fall into this convenience category while simultaneously offering a “fancy” feeling beverage. They can be purchased in grocery stores or gas stations for relatively low cost (about the same price as domestic beer), but leave the drinker feeling a bit more sophisticated than your average gas station beer does. 5. Hard Seltzer is great for everyone
While many people might think the stereotype for hard seltzers is that they are only consumed by young females, this isn’t true! Forbes actually states that “there isn’t a female skew to those who drink hard seltzer.” In fact, hard seltzers appeal to a large demographic, due to their easy-drinking nature, low calories, and price-point. This is a drink that is here to stay, so expect to see everyone you know drinking it!
